Army-Navy Soccer Tailgate – Thank You!!

Patricia Field and I, along with Jack Parry and Dave Evans, wanted to say “Thank You” for all the support we received from the SPPA membership for the Army-Navy soccer game at PPL Park.  There was plenty of food, an abundance of help setting up and breaking down the equipment, before and after the tailgate, and most importantly, parents with ear to ear smiles serving the food to the midshipmen.  It was unfortunate that the midshipmen arrived later than expected, but everyone had a memorable time.

Those parents who went the distance and weathered the cool autumn evening, were not disappointed.  The entire game was back and forth, and exciting as anyone would have imagined.  The score was tie after regulation, so they played into double overtime.  Army had a chance to win the game on a direct penalty kick inside the 18 yard line, but the Navy keeper blocked the shot, which does not happen very often.  With approximately three minutes remaining in the double overtime, Navy put one in the net for the win. Hopefully, the euphoria will carry over into next year !

Your support at this event did not go unnoticed.  As usual, SPPA rose to the challenge and we appreciate that.  We are an active organization because of your dedication.

Thank You !

2014 Tailgate Season is Here!

Welcome Southeast Pennsylvania Parents Association Members!

Navy-Marine Corps Memorial StadiumThis Saturday, November 15, Navy plays their last home game of the season against Georgia Southern at  Navy – Marine Corps Stadium.!!!  Game Time is 3:30 PM, but if you are an alumni or any other SPPA member who would like to help set up for the tailgate, please arrive around 10:00 AM.   With all hands on deck, we should be set up by 11:00.  If you’re not able to make it to the game, at least send down some home-made desserts for our midshipmen.

If you are bringing food, please don’t forget to go fill out the Tailgate spreadsheet (see below) and please let us know what you are bringing so we can plan appropriately.

Each home game we will feature a class to be that week’s TAILGATE CAPTAINS. Tailgate Captains have the privilege of leading the rest of our Pennsylvania parents in showing up with the most personnel, setting up, bringing or sending desserts, serving our MIDs after the game, and/or tearing down and cleaning up after the tailgate. The class with the most volunteers all season will get their year and names added to the brand new ”Wall of Fame” to be installed on the SPPA trailer this year! Cool huh!

Class Captains this week are the CLASS OF 2018!

USNA Tailgating Tips for First-Timers

This info applies to all home games:

If you are bringing food, please don’t forget to visit the Tailgate spreadsheet  to note what you will be bringing.

When the spreadsheet opens up, click on the tab at the bottom of the page which corresponds to the specific game, and please let us know what type of dessert, in the dessert column, you are bringing so we can plan appropriately.  (When it looks like we may not have enough desserts for the mids, we will go out and purchase more.  So, to avoid the last minute anxiety and logistical nightmare of running to BJ’s please  “register” your dessert.)

Drop-off can be accommodated along Farragut Road by calling 215.205.9318 or 267.467.1536 (my number) and we can meet you roadside for a drop-off.

Please pass this information long to your son or daughter and have them tell everyone about it. All MIDS are invited!

And remember, we will not be coming in off of Farragut Road any more.  Rather, we will be entering Gate #5 off of Taylor Avenue and Cedar Park Road.

You can e-mail or call me with any questions.

Army-Navy Soccer Tailgate (11/7/2014) Update!

SPPA Parents:

Army Navy Cup 2014The Southeastern PA Parents’ Association, along with assistance from the “Friends of Navy Soccer”, will be hosting the Army-Navy soccer game on Friday night, November 7th.  In support of our midshipmen, SPPA will be setting up a tailgate for the soccer team and approximately two bus loads of midshipmen.

We have procured the meats for the tailgate, which will consist of hamburgers and hot dogs, through private donations, but will need some help with side dishes and desserts.  If you are able to help out, please sign up using this link:  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090B49AAAC2FA75-sppa.

Once you click on the link and it opens up, select which items you would like to provide, and click on the sign up.  If you have any questions, or would like to provide a dish or dessert not listed on the sign up sheet, please contact Courtenay Pecoraro, whose name is listed on the sign up sheet.  In addition to side dishes and desserts, we would like some help with setting up before the tailgate and breaking down after the tailgate, but before the soccer game.
